In ancient times when humans sat around the campfires untill the days of modern writings, stories have always been a way to bring audiences together and evoke understanding, trust and empathy.

True Stories is a Dutch production company where screenplay comes first. It was founded in 2020 by Sophie van Winden, Lieke Gallé, Martijn Herfkens and Hanro Smitsman.
We invest in and manage exceptional writers and work closely with them to construct independent screenplays with great artistic value (while maintaining commercial sensibility).
We believe that a compelling screenplay is the spawn, the foundation of a good film. It’s the most significant aspect of a successful film. We believe the road to the ultimate screenplay is artistic freedom. The writer should be free and have the strongest voice in the development process in order to write and construct a magical story.
WHAT MAKES EXCELLENT SCREENPLAY?
It’s not just about an intriguing concept, great characters, thrilling suspense or brilliant dialogue. There is one fundamental virtue it should attain: Catharsis, the feeling we feel after the resolution of the story and the protagonist’s overall journey.
The aim of True Stories is to take the viewer on such a journey. Through fact-based research True Stories will craft stories that will appeal to our deepest emotions. The aim of true Stories is to be a visual medium for an understood truth.
